Hello. Read the manual. Twice! And then go out and play. Really get to know your camera.

Just another day on Earth...

hello and welcome.

I don't know the camera but the usual advice is to use full auto at first.

you would get more response if you asked your questions in one of the normal forums such as Taking pictures.

This section is normally for features, perhaps instructions or projects.

happy new year.

Kind regards,

Chas.

Hi Tim.. Not really hehe.... Just figured a couple of things out... Like the S mode... Still a lot behind. I don't normally take this long to get the hang of a gadget !

But I've been playing around with it all day today , I connected it to the PC. Pics look great.

Water pics as in what ? Do you mean water droplets ?

I have a similar S3200.

If you are going to take pictures using the full zoom then I recommend a tripod. Also, stick with the auto feature.

Please take a look at my gallery. The comments really help!

Just joined the site too. I got an S4000 for Christmas and am still getting used to it. We have lots of birds and squirrels nesting outside our place so I should get a lot of practice.

I've had an s4000 for 6 months after using 35mm slr for years so I'm praising it in one breath & cursing it in another. Iso in simple terms relates to how sensitive to light the setting is e.g: iso 64 needs bright light, iso 800 needs a lot less light, not good idea to go above 800 really. In 35mm terms the lower number also gave richer colour, not sure yet with digital. Experiment with the preset scenes, then put them on your computer & compare the settings in the info helps a bit. It does have a couple of annoying points but overall is a reasonable good camera, best thing to do is just experiment & take heaps of pics to learn. On the negative side mine's been in for repairs twice!!.

Enjoy

Glenn

Just another thought . Don't have a tripod, make a small bean bag a little bigger than a fist.

Thank you all for your good advice. I'm still going through the manual. Took a couple of pics indoors, but still have a long way to go !

May I ask you what settings I need when taking outdoor pictures at night of big buildings with light etc but at the same time keeping the background dark.

Thanks !

Experiment. I usually will have it on the "P" setting, then use +/- to make adjustments. Take a number of shots to get something you like. Make use of the 'timer' to avoid camera shake when you depress the shutter too.

I bought my S4000 as a self xmas present to replace my old fuji point and shoot compact.   I have a lot to learn with this camera so my photos have been very plain so far.  Need to have a good read of the manual supplied on the cd.  Love the quality of the pics.

Hello everyone. If you have time can you please checkout my gallery... I uploaded a pic yesterday. I uploaded a star. The pic came really good , and I was about 60 m away from the object itself, however I am not happy with that bright dot in the middel of the star..... Is there anyway to remove it or did I do anything wrong.
