IHC MAN 148 - Task and discussion thread - CLOSED
I hope you all had a good Christmas and have a happy New Year too
I don't think this has been done recently -
Pop Art Inspired by Lichtenstein
http://www.melissaclifton.com/tutorial-popart.html
http://10steps.sg/tutorials/photoshop/create-a-retro-pop-art-in-photoshop/
I will put up the registration thread on Sunday afternoon/evening
For anyone new:
The IHC Man is for the purpose of exploring software. The task is set each week according to a Rota
The person setting the task tries to find tutorials for others to follow - but as there are so many different programmes this is not always possible for all softwares.
There is a discussion thread and a registration thread
A copy of the photo is NOT inserted into the thread - just Mine's in and the link to your image/s.
The person setting the task is responsible for posting the two threads, labelling them CURRENT whilst the task is active and CLOSED when it has finished
The IHCMAN does not have winners, as softwares, experience and creativity are variable just the experience and satisfaction of completeing a task. It is therefore important for CC's to be given by as many folk as possible who are also entrants.
The resultant image can be something from stock, photoshop brushes, other imagery as long as there is no copyright issues on imagery used.

Hi Bev...you've been very quiet recently but good to see you popping back in again.
Hope your Christmas was enjoyable and that the coming year is kind to you and yours and a nice task to take us over the date line.... should bring us some good results from those budding artists out there !

I had a try using the tutorial that Bev posted and it seems to work OK, this is my first go to see how it turned out. I reckon this is another one where choosing the right picture is half the task.

Thanks for your comments Mary Ann - I think you are probably right!! My problem was that I like to use my own images and I don't really 'do' people very much. I also found getting the dots right was almost impossible - they came out much too large and I seemed to have no control over them. But hey-ho - perhaps when I have three days to spare I'll have another go!!

I don`t think mine`s quite right either, Angie.. I got about two thirds of the way down the 1st section of the tutorial , then couldnt find the next functions in my PS so I winged the rest in gimp (I`m more used to that)...

Good to see you back, Bev ... Happy New Year ,.... & thanks for coming in to set the task ..

After bit of a struggle I have at last got something worth entering but I cannot seem to upload it. I am getting the message to say it is uploaded but it is not showing on my gallery. I was wondering if there had been any bugs on the site just lately as I have also had trouble using the green tree method to put a picture into my comments, the picture gets uploaded but then the insert button disappears and several more copies of my image arrive in my list

There is a problem Ann - no-one's photos are showing. Everything, I would guess, is on hold until tomorrow when the back room boys get back to work.

Hi folks. I've just entered my picture and , as Ann says, nothing is coming up. Hopefully I'll be around a bit more now. I've really missed this. Hope you all had a good holiday season and I'd like to wish you all a great year in 2012. I have decided that it's going to be a special one..............my birthday is 20-12. The big pity is that I'll never be 20 or 12 again. but then I don't think I'd like to be. I'm off to try commenting but if it's slow then I'll come back another time before Sunday. Thanks for all the good wishes.

I forgot to say "Hi Bevra. Hope you are well and it's good to see you around." Thanks Angie. Thank goodness it doesn't take me a week to follow the tutorials now.

Hi Bev et al.,
Due to a succession of power cuts and being thrown back into a technological stone age, clearing fallen branches in the garden and being away from home for a couple of days, I haven't managed to get mine in. Will try to get one in by Sunday but it's going to be tight, sorry.

Evening Bevra and all
Here is my 1st attempt, will try to improve on it by tomorrow
Enjoying this challenge, had a go before at Pop art style, but i like the half tone effects that are needed for this particular style!
Cheers

Here's my take on a more 'traditional' Lichtenstein ...

Hi folks, I've just been commenting and realising that my effort fell short. I went back to the tutorial by Evans and realised that in my haste, I missed out the second page!!!!!!!!!! No fool like an old fool. Anyway, don't know if I'll manage the next one as we are back to hospital visiting unfortunately.
Spread a little happiness.

Nice one again, Howard. A very rich portrait and I like the way you've brought out the eyes. I'm not sure if it should have more contrasting and unnatural tones or not as I can't quite figure out what falls within the gamut of 'Lichtenstein' but my immediate impression is that it is a job very well done. :-)

Alan,
It's getting the right 'Comic Book Cartoon' style that I can't quite get right. If I could get that I'd tweak the colours more but thought it best not to go too far with the style I could achieve.
Usually I use FotoSketcher for cartoons but it doesn't quite give the right effect. I'm still experimenting with the Mehdi Flat Median plug-in to simplify the image which gives reasonable results but have yet to find an edge-detection/line art type plug-in for the outlines. I suspect these are probably best done free-hand ... but I can't do free-hand!

I had another go but I know it is still not right. Not sure how to solve this one - like Howard I don't 'do' drawing but even so I would have hoped to get closer than I seem to have done.
