Camera won't connect to computer. Please help!
Submitted by _Rawrness_ on Wed, 25/08/2010 - 21:17
Hey guys
I have a fujifilm finepix s2500hd camera (around 3 months old), and i'm having real trouble connecting it to my computer. I also have windows xp, if thats important.
I have installed the finepix viewer and everything, and it worked for me once before about a month ago, but i tried to upload pictures tonight, so i could edit them, and it said it was connected, but i wasn't able to view any pictures. I also noticed a pop-up stating that the device malfunctioned and windows did not recognise it.
Its the only way i can edit pictures because the card doesn't fit in my printer.
Can anyone help??
Thank you so much if you do.

You can buy a USB stick with a slot in it for an SD card, they're referred to as card readers, put your card into it (make sure it's the correct way round, contacts to contacts) and plug it into a USB socket. It will appear in my computer as an accessible drive which you can double click on to open and access the DCIM folder. Open that to reveal the Fuji folder inside which is your shots. If you can see the folder that you store your shots in on the desktop you can easily copy the files. Select all the new shots and drag them (left mouse button in a standard setup) from the card and drop them into your folder or you can drag the fuji folder onto your desktop and it will copy over. When you have finished right click on the card/drive symbol and select eject. You can then safely remove the USB stick. DO NOT let Windows erase or format the card. Here is a shot of the card reader I sometimes use.

Forget connecting the camera. Use a card reader connected to the PC.
Tesco do a Technika 16 in 1 usb 2 card reader for £7.13. Reads all my cards no problem!

Thanks everyone for your help.
I purchased a card reader, and its doing the exact same thing. 'Device not recognized'
So i still can't view my pictures.
I've tried plugging the computer out, and a whole bunch of other things and none of it has worked
I don't understand, because it was working completly fine less than a month ago.

I would use "Systen Restore" to roll your operating system back to a time you didn't have this problem, in case you have corrupted USB drivers..

Before trying a system restrore with the card reader attached i would go to start menu and then right click on my computer, select properties from drop down.
next click on Hardware then Device Manager
next highlight and select Universal Serial Bus Controllers from the displayed list, go to action at the top and scan for hardware changes.
Hopefully this will find your attached card reader then
