HS10 Disassemble Lens body

Dear friends,

Im looking for a service manual or someone that knows how to disasseble the lens at my HS10.

Someone have the manual or can explain to me how open the body lens?

I think that it has a ring (30x fujimon lens ggjjsgj) and  it must have some screws under it.

Thanks for your help!

Do you mean disassemble, or remove the lens?  The HS10 does not have interchangeable lenses, so the lens is not removeable. It's a bridge camera not a DSLR!

There was a guy in here who actually professed to have disassembled his lens to fix a loose element, however he then turned up in here saying that the HS10 was rubbish and the photo's were terrible as was the HD video............  I wonder why?

My views are mine alone and do not represent the views of others, either implied, alive, dead, budding apparitions or know it alls. Anything I state, that doesnt go along with everyone else or THE RULES are stated to give another avenue to explore

I think the problem arises when some shops and web sites classify these items as DSLRs.

It gives the wrong impression.

I dont think it's a good idea and would always discourage you from disassembling a digital camera you still want to use.

On the other hand you should be grown up and nobody could stop you from googling

hs10 repair guide disassembly

took me 1 minute to find 2 offers (fee required)

This will invalidate the warranty.

The manual recommends the camera is sent for internal cleaning every two years for dust problems which at least means there is a procedure for this that Fuji are willing to do and probably doesn't cost the earth. Get them to do it.

This information is on page iii of your pdf manual.

If you are seeing dust it is not on the lens but the sensor. dust on lenses do not show as spots on an image but as flare when interfered with by light when taking shots towards the sun.

Because the sensor is of the image stabilisation kind, meaning that it mechanically moves within a frame at a micro level to stop vibration blur that touching the sensor will probably result in destroying it. The sensor is about half the size of your small finger nail.

To get to the sensor means approaching from the back of the camera not the front.

The lens barrel and lens element groups are aligned to tolerances you can't begin to imagine and kept in place by quite a complex mechanism which has to move individual elements at different rates up and down the length of the barrel during zoom and focus operations. I think if you open it up you may just as well throw it away. I can not see any good outcome from this option.

Dear Ray,

I´m understanding your view point.. but im just disassemble the frist lens... just it ... that under the plastic ring... i thnk that we will not have a big problem... i will not touch inside the camera. Im thinking only remove that 3 screws , remove the ring that fix the lens and put back. Just the first lens.  I will not damage the camera doing it...   My qustion is ... IF I remove that 3 screws this len can be removed? Just that len.

Thanks for your patient!

In truth I don't know.

On the two bridge cameras I do have (not the HS10) it's clear the assembly is from the back and underside of the camera. I have not noticed any way to get to front elements from the front of a bridge camera lens. If an element is removable the normal way would be via a large threaded ring on the inside of the barrel.

But as I said if you you are seeing black particles on your images it is not from dust on the lens.

If you are seeing dust when looking through the lens that is normal. When I look thought most of my DSLR lenses there are specs to be seen inside. These have never shown up in images. If you do not see dark spots on your images then it is not a problem yet.

Personally I would not go this route at all.

However it's your choice and I'm sorry I can't be of more use.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hi hm_fa_Da

That is cool , I 've tried to dissasemble the camera , but stuck at point where all screws I could see were removed , but the only place I coudn't do much was the flash - it had some strange mounting , so I coudn't remove the unscrewd part , because it was somehow stick to the other part .

Anyway now I see that someone has done it , I'll try harder .

Could you please provide more fotos , or might be description of dissasembly .

I've send the camera once to the shop , and the shop send it back to fuji , after 4 weeks of waiting , I got the camera back with the same problem , and paper which was saying that my camera works within the specificatiohn ...

I don't want to spent other 4 weeks without camera , so If i kill this one , I go and by another one probably canon cx 30 : )

Ya,  the fuji support is **** if they didn't see that the lense tube is moving .... and if you keep finger on it than you get normal fotos and if not than the right side of the picture is blurred ....

I've just finish reassemble the lens of my finepix hs10 and it work like new.

Like you i had sand inside the lens and it drived me nuts so i lifted the plastic ring and the clear sticky band under it and unscrewed the 3 little screws. Those screws hold the adaptor ring i guess to receive somes filters. Then under this cap are 3 other screws that hold the lens. Be carefull under the plastic housing right where the screws thread are 3 littles springs. so that's it! I cleaned the lens and put everything back together and took pictures ...everything's allright. Hope it will be helpful for you......

Hi all !

Thanks for all the "usefull" comments on this subject, with all of them, I managed to clean my camera !

And for all the other buyers of that HS10, here is a "tutorial" of how to proceed.

NOTICE : ******  PLEASE READ EVERYTHING HERE BEFORE DOING IT ! ******

My camera lens was filthy like that :

OKAY, FIRST : you'll need tools, not much actually : just a "star" and a "flat" srewdriver.

Small but sturdy ones :

Note that I have used a file to make my "star" srewdriver "thinner" Wink

You will also need a lint-free cloth to clean the lens :

Looking at the front of the camera, you'll notice a ring with numbers on it.

Put the cloth on the lens (to protect it) and GENTLY pry-out the ring with the "flat" srewdriver.

It's just holding there with 2-sided tape :

Once the numbered ring is out, take off the 2-sided tape :

Be carefull not to scratch the lens !

You will now need your "thin" and sturdy "star" srewdriver to take out those 3 screws.

Again : Be carefull not to scratch the lens !

When the screws are out, make sure not to loose them, they are really small !

You will now have to slide up the top part, it comes out quite easily !

Its the hole part that holds the add-on lenses.

Now here we see another set of screws. Again and Again : Be carefull not to scratch the lens.

Take these screws out (circled in Red).

You'll notice that nothing come off. That's normal, even if there is 3 springs under this mounting. The reason is that, there is a "whithish" glue holding it to the body (Yellow marks).

Take a marker and make a line somewhere from the lens body to the body, so that you can place it exactly where it was before.

Now be REAAALLLLLLY carefull prying that part up with the "flat" srewdriver, the glue will break... take your time !

Remember I told you about the springs ?  Well : they are here :

You finally see the inside lens, and have the outside lens in your hans.

Now take that lint-free cloth and GENTLY clean those lenses. Make sure you also are in a lint-free enviroment. Why ? Because the moment you'll place that lens back : you'll have lint and particle under the lenses again !!! Wink

Hehe ! Been there, done that !

I know I'm annoying, but BE REALLY CAREFULL not to make any scratches on them, for that you will not forgive yourself. Dont say I did not warn you Wink

DO NOT use kleenexes, your t-shirt, or any cloth other than a specialized cloth from camera stores, or ones for eye glasses. Do NOT apply pressure, take your time and inspect thoses lenses really carefully, dirt places itself everywhere !

Now that you're done, you will need to re-assemble that lens.

Place the 3 springs on the smaller screw holes. They have some kind of a "guide".

Remember that mark that you made ?! Just align those marks together and gently lower the lens of the springs.

Put in those screws one by one and JUST MAKE ONE TURN on them.

Why ? because you will screw them : "one turn" at a time on every screw.

The idea is to lower the lens evenly, and make sure you dont over-screw them into craking the lens.

The rest of the re-assembly is backwards of what you did :

  • Putting the big cap over the lens.
  • Putting the screws on, dont over- thight them !
  • Put the 2-sided tape over the screws.
  • Put the numbered ring on the tape, and gently-but-firmly apply pressure around it, so that it stays in place until the next clean-up Wink

There you have it !

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

I hope it also helped you clean your lenses, and save BIG BUCKS !
